Original HP cartridges. How printing affects indoor air quality

11 July 2023

Almost all devices affect indoor air quality, and printers in particular. Therefore, air quality is a serious problem.

Manufacturers of printers, fax machines and copiers use two environmental standards: Blue Angel and EPEAT®. Both environmental certifications include criteria for office printers as well as consumables used in inkjet and laser printers. In particular, emission limits are specified for total volatile organic compounds (VOCs), benzene, styrene, total and ultrafine particles and ozone.

HP voluntarily develops and tests its printing systems to prevent emissions that may exceed environmental standards. Replacing original HP toner cartridge with a non-HP toner cartridge may result in the HP printing system not meeting international guidelines (Blue Angel / EPEAT) for indoor emissions.

If the cartridge does not meet the indoor air quality requirements, the emissions amount released during printing may exceed the allowable values. 94% of non-original laser cartridges failed the indoor air quality test. Non-genuine laser cartridges have been shown to exceed Blue Angel’s VOC emission limits by 198%, which may be harmful to health.

Long-term emissions of particulate matter, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can lead to:

  • fatigue;
  • irritation of the eyes, nose and throat;
  • headaches;
  • loss of coordination;
  • nausea.

Take care of the health of your employees, use original HP consumables! HP!
